Pearl's Double Yolk Egg 11-22-09

Thought I'd make omelets for breakfast. I gathered the eggs so kindly delivered by my chickens. The first egg I cracked open was a double yolk! This is the first double yolk egg from my chickens. Go Pearl! She's awesome. If we had hatched it, does that mean I'd have twins?

Snickers

If I'm at the computer, Snickers is at the computer.

Back View of Ellie 11-21-09

This girl has SO many feathers on her legs. She won't be cold this winter.

Honey 11-21-09

Honey is our sad chicken. She was beat up from the very beginning, even before we got her. If you remember, her neck feathers have been pulled out several times. I've isolated her to let her heal. The right side of her neck won't even grow feathers anymore. I've experimented with living quarters, and I think I have the best solution now. Ellie and Lacey are in their own area (since they tend to pick on Honey), while Red, Harriet, Sophia, Pearl, Phyllis and Honey have the coop and play pen. Seems to be working for Honey. I don't expect her to be a people chicken. She's scared of everything. But I will give her a good home.

Zippy Waiting for Lunch

I was making lunch Nov 20. I looked over and saw Zippy sitting at the counter, like I was gonna serve her. She is such a riot.

Mouse in Chicken Scratch

Before church, I was doing my "farm" chores. There was a little mouse in the chicken scratch container. First time in three years we've had a mouse in the chicken food. Guess we will have to put lids on securely instead of just laying them on top. But isn't it cute?

Just a random video of the feline girls.

Buttons and Zippy

These are two very fun and adorable cats. How can anyone not like cats?

My Wish List

I was at a house today to select paint for a couple rooms. I look out the back window, and I see three deer - a mother and her babies. Grabbed my camera.

I need a farmette in the country so I can have this view. I could have mini-goats, sheep, etc. How fun would that be?

At Sharon's on Nov 7, 2009

As you might know, Sharon lost two of her beloved chickens to a raccoon. Beaker, the white chicken, survived the attack. The dark grey Polish, Snyder, is one of her new chicks. This is Sharon's house and the construction of a new, predator-proof coop.

She does have two new chicks, only a week old, but I forgot to take pics of them.

Doodah

I need to repair this cat carrier for Jon and Laura. Doodah immediately made it his.

New Egg

This is the second day that we have gotten an extra egg. The egg on the right is from Red, the Rhode Island Red. The middle egg is from Sophia, the Silkie. AND (drum roll) the egg on the left is from one of the six young chickens. We don't know yet which one has started to lay. It's either Pearl, Phyllis, Ellie or Lacy. They just turned 5 months old. This egg is the same small size of Sophia's but lighter in color. Not quite white.

Tigger

Went to the grocery store this morming. Tigger, the neighbor's cat who hangs out at our house, helped unload the trunk.

Cats and Sunshine

Parke and Zippy Napping

Zippy is NOT a lap cat. She's very affectionate, but doesn't like held. So, this is a very rare moment for her to voluntarily be on someone.

Cats and Chickens Can Be Friends

Today the three older girls were out today. Two neighbor cats showed up. This is proof that cats and birds can get along.

Jamestown Settlement

Parke and I were in Williamsburg for a long weekend Oct 22-25. Went to Jamestown Settlement. Guess what I found. CHICKENS!!!
