Honey 11-21-09
Honey is our sad chicken. She was beat up from the very beginning, even before we got her. If you remember, her neck feathers have been pulled out several times. I've isolated her to let her heal. The right side of her neck won't even grow feathers anymore. I've experimented with living quarters, and I think I have the best solution now. Ellie and Lacey are in their own area (since they tend to pick on Honey), while Red, Harriet, Sophia, Pearl, Phyllis and Honey have the coop and play pen. Seems to be working for Honey. I don't expect her to be a people chicken. She's scared of everything. But I will give her a good home.

Mouse in Chicken Scratch
Before church, I was doing my "farm" chores. There was a little mouse in the chicken scratch container. First time in three years we've had a mouse in the chicken food. Guess we will have to put lids on securely instead of just laying them on top. But isn't it cute?

My Wish List
At Sharon's on Nov 7, 2009
As you might know, Sharon lost two of her beloved chickens to a raccoon. Beaker, the white chicken, survived the attack. The dark grey Polish, Snyder, is one of her new chicks. This is Sharon's house and the construction of a new, predator-proof coop.
She does have two new chicks, only a week old, but I forgot to take pics of them.

New Egg
This is the second day that we have gotten an extra egg. The egg on the right is from Red, the Rhode Island Red. The middle egg is from Sophia, the Silkie. AND (drum roll) the egg on the left is from one of the six young chickens. We don't know yet which one has started to lay. It's either Pearl, Phyllis, Ellie or Lacy. They just turned 5 months old. This egg is the same small size of Sophia's but lighter in color. Not quite white.
