Stray Chicken in Yard - pictures 6/6/10

Here are pics of stray chicken in the tree. Here's the story: Our neighbors in the farm house across the street had their four small horses picked up. When the guy opened the horse trailer, a stowaway chicken came out. So, she must be from a horse farm somewhere. Our neighbors tried to catch her, but she is wild. It definitely isn't a pet like some chickens are! :)

So, now we have a wild chicken in the neighborhood. Another neighbor called to tell me a chicken is running around. I explained she wasn't our chicken and how she got here. The chicken is driving her dogs nuts. There are dogs all around...not sure how long this chicken will last. Her advantage is she is light weight and can fly. It's a shame I can't catch her. She's really pretty and lays blue colored eggs.

While trying to find the chicken in the ivy, she got spooked and flew up the tree. She continued to fly on higher branches till she was about 20 feet up.

We always make the bed first thing in the morning. Didn't happen today. Doodah got right in there. So, instead of making the bed, Parke decided to read. Notice what? Backyard Poultry Magazine. Yep, we have our priorities right! :)

Tried to measure Finn. He was just laying there, so I got the two-yard stick. I put the 0" at the tip of his tail. You can see how long he is, and he's not even stretched out as long as he can get. Remember, he's just a kitten!

Baby is our oldest cat at almost 9. When kitten Finn joined our family in December, they often took naps together. Now that Finn is huge at 8 months, it's a bit harder for them both to fit on some chairs, depending on position. Baby must be thinking, "Really, does he have to follow me everywhere?"

Maggie is making herself at home. She loves the catnip in the corner of the garden. She and the chickens have worked out co-existing.

We put the top of an old picnic table in the coop area. It will provide more shade for the girls in the summer heat. And it can be used for a table. They are having cantelope rinds.

And the girls love being out in the yard. They especially love this one corner of the yard where we don't care what they do to the grass.

Here is another neighbor's cat that is hanging at our house. We don't know where she lives or her name. We are naming her Maggie. She's a sweetheart.

Sad News about Tigger 5/6/10

We are so sad. Our neighbor's cat Tigger, who spends a lot of time at our house, got hit my a car. He was only eight. Very sad. Here is Tigger with our chickens. We will really miss this happy cat.

We were in northern Texas in April to visit Parke's sister Barb, b-i-l, and other relatives and friends. This is Barb's puppy Maggie, 3/4 havanese & 1/4 maltese. Just a precious little girl. We spoiled her rotten.
