Poor Ellie Jan 6-8, 11
Had a little problem with Ellie. She had some diarrhea, which left all her many back/butt/leg feathers a caked mess. Decided on Thursday to give her a bath. She was such a good girl. She just stood there and did not try to fly away. She just squawked the whole time. Some of my other hens would not have put up with this.
I couldn't get her clean, so I started cutting off feathers. Sprayed her with hydrogen peroxide, covered skin with Balmex (diaper rash cream) to sooth her skin. She stayed in the bathroom till today. Saturday morning I bathed off the cream (so it wouldn't freeze when I put her back outside). She stayed inside till this afternoon when she was all dry.
She is now quaranteened from the other chickens for a few days. She needs to heal up a little so she isn't pecked (even to death) by the other girls. Chickens will kill a bird that isn't normal. So to play it safe, she is in the 6' x10' kennel that is beside the other chicken area.
This video is her voicing her opinion about this situation.

Snow Day (part 8) 1-7-11
Snow Day (part 5) 1-7-11
Shoveled along the back of the house for them. That's a favorite place of theirs. Put straw down to protect their feet. Food and water. Finn is enjoying watching thru the window.
Plate of cat for food a little extra protein today. They LOVE it.
Gave them cabbage for another special snow-day treat, since they don't have the whole yard to explore.

Chickens Coming Out for the Day 1-3-11
We were away for 4 days over New Year's. Girls were so glad we came home and they could get out.
This is a neighbor's cat. Someone told us it is from about 4 houses away on the street behind us. We named it Maggie before we were told they thought his name was Abe. Well, it's Maggie for us.
She keeps watch over the chickens. Here she is in the middle of the yard. All the chickens are up against the house, one of their favorite places to be. She's our herding watchcat.
