Lily, our neighbor's great granddaughter, came to see the chickens today. This is the first day they have been in the new yard pen. They can be in the grass, but the hawks can't get them.
The four hens we rescued in November are escape artists. They got out of the covered run, where we try to keep them due to the hawk that is sometimes around. Today when they got out, they headed straight to the back of the house to take dust baths. They had a blast.
We are so incredibly sad. Our favorite chicken, and possibly our favorite pet of the many dozens that we have had, was killed this morning. A hawk got into their area. We are sad beyond words. It is such a great loss to us. We have cried and cried over losing her. I'm not sure we will ever have a more loving hen. It's so difficult to pick one picture to show her off. She and Finn had a special relationship.
Here are some of the eggs we get. The biggest egg is from one of our four rescued hens. We get four of those eggs every day. The little white one is from our precious Phillie. A picture of them in order from largest to smallest. A picture of Phyliie's egg next to the largest.
Sometimes it's difficult to get any work done. I was trying to use the printer. Finn was so interested in the paper coming out. It looks like he is actually reviewing my tax info. Snickers is always on the desk when I'm there. Those are my helpers.
Parke temporarily propped up a ramp that was falling apart. Phyllie thought it perfect to perch for a while. I don't know how she even saw up that high to know it was there.
Zippy jumps up on that one counter. She learned long ago that the cat treats are up in that cupboard. She sits there asking for treats. Then any cat that wants to show up enjoys a treat on the floor.
I was driving to a client's house in Elizabethtown. I saw a big bird high in a tree. I stopped to see what it was. Pulled out my camera for the zoom. An EAGLE! Never saw an eagle around here before.
Parke occasionally takes Phyllie to work with him at the nursing home. He sets her up in the hall for residents to see her. Tanya, one of our friends who works there, picked Phyllie up to show her to a resident. Everyone LOVES Phyllie.
I love my animals. I have a houseful of cats. I currently have 7 inside cats. I feed and love on many neighbors' outside cats. We got our first chickens in the spring of 2007. What a wonderful adventure. We take our hens to nursing homes for chicken programs. We might be the only people with therapy chickens.
