New Outside Cat 5-15-12

This little one has been hanging around. I'm determined to tame her.

I am spoiling Buffy with canned food. I can get about 5 feet from her. I'm making progress.

Barney, the dark cat, has been around for a while. Now we have two strays to feed.

Cooper Visits the Hens 5-12-12

A client/friend came over today and brought her dog Cooper.

The chickens ran to the back of their  pen.

Cooper wasn't real interested.

We weren't sure who was more scared - Cooper or the hens.

Our Working Chickens 5-5-12

Parke and I spent hours today working on the ornamental grass garden, mostly weeding it. (No sunblock. We believe in vitamin D.) Our rescued girls are such ravenous eaters, we decided to put them in the playpen and let them eat some weeds and bugs and till it for us. We'll put them in a different section tomorrow. We put the girls to work and they don't even know it! They love it!

Living the Good Chicken Life 5-5-12

We are having lunch on the patio. That's Juneau and Frizzie on their first day in the yard.

There are 3 areas of chickens. Our original 5 are in the new chicken tractor, or what we call their play pen. The 4 rescued hens are in the whole coop area. The babies are in the nursery.

Some people probably think we are nuts, but we love the yard and animals.

Parke opened the nesting area of the coop for ventilation. Two rescued hens are checking things out.

New Chicks Outside for First Time 5-5-12

Juneau is 3 weeks old and Frizzie is 5 weeks. They have been in the house for a week. Today they went outside for the first time in their lives. This is our new chicken nursery. I'll bring them in for the night cause Juneau might get cold. Then back outside tomorrow.

So cute. They are best friends. They just weren't sure about coming down the ramp. They thought it safer to stay in the hutch.

I was forcing them to come down the ramp.

First time in grass. Took them a little while to calm down enough to eat and drink.
