Three Babies 7-16-12

We had quite a storm last night. Our newest girl is grooming herself. She is getting her tail feathers in order.

Now she's working on the wing feathers.

What a pretty girl. The other two babies are in the background.

Frizzie and one of the new ones.

All three babies are getting along well. They just met this weekend.

Another New Chicken Today - Blue Polish 7-15-12

Today we drove to Maryland to get this 4 month old hen.  She's a rare blue Polish.

Did you know you can cuddle chickens?  Well, you can cuddle my girls.

Showing her where she'll live when she's a little older.

Finn Stretched Out 7-15-12

Finn is all stretched out.  I should lay a yard stick beside him to see how big he is.

He is all relaxed and he isn't moving for anyone.

Frizzie and Her New Friend. 7-15-12

This is Frizzie, my black frizzle cochin, and our new unnamed chick. And one happy redhead!

The two young ones living in the kennel now.

They have perches and ramps to explore.

New Chicken Columbian Plymouth Rock 7-14-12

When we took the three girls to the breeder, we came home with this girl. She's a Columbian Plymouth Rock. Each long wing feather is half black and half white. Cool design.

New Home for Three Chickens 7-14-12

Juneau back where he was hatched. Here is the breeder's son holding Juneau.

My two girls loving their huge pen they will share with 20 other chickens.

Giving Away Three Chickens 7-14-12

I had rescued 4 chickens in November. There are still major pecking order fights. I found someone who was more than happy to take these girls and give them a good home. Sad to see them go, but necessary.

Here is Juneau, my second try to get a hen of this breed - white-crested Polish.  Both times they turned out to be roosters.  So he is going back to the breeder today.  So sad.

Juneau's long tail and his black/green irridescent feathers.

Country Meadows Chicken Program 7-12-12

Today we took the girls to Country Meadows.  This is their first elevator ride!

The residents were starting to gather as we set up. The room was full for our program.

Some people hung around afterwards to hold a chicken.  Sophia is very calm and sweet, so we can trust her to just sit on someone's lap.

We are set up and ready to start a 3 hour program with about 6 classes at a preschool.

I'm showing Sophia to the 2 year olds.
