Chickens and Snow

The chickens have been confined to their pen due to the ice and snow. Parke did shovel some of their playpen so they have ground to scratch in.

Since it finally went above freezing on Sunday, Feb 1, I shoveled paths to their favorite places. One is the base of our huge maple tree. They scratch thru the decaying leaves on the ground. The other is along the back of the house.

Here are the girls coming up the path to the house. Can you find Sophia in the middle picture? She's half way up the yard. She's like an Arctic fox - camouflaged.

Zippy and Buttons Getting a Drink

Buttons has a total fascination with running water. She thinks she has to be at any sink whenever water is on. She races thru the house getting to a faucet.

We have a humidifier in the basement to counter the dry coal stove heat. Parke uses a bucket in the laundry room sink to fill the humidifier. As soon as the water is running, Buttons and Zippy race to the sink. Zippy gets in the sink for a drink, while Buttons stands on the edge. This is an everyday occurrence.

Zippy Paws

Zippy can not sit anywhere without hanging her paws over an edge. She is so incredibly adorable.

Zippity and Doodah

It's fun having names that go together!

Alpaca

Here we are at the Farm Show on Saturday. This is Sharon, Parke and the alpacas.

Frizzle Chicken

I want a frizzle chicken. That's when the feathers go backwards. How cool is that?! My goal for spring is to get one.
