Chicken Little - Fall Haircut 10-18-10

Chicken Little has so many head feathers. She can't see, so it's time for a haircut. Four pics of her. Then a pic after a little trim. We'll see if it's enough or if she needs more trimmed.

Sewing Helpers 10-12-10

Had lots of help sewing - Finn, Zippy and Doodah.

Lights in Coop 10-10-10

We put a light on a timer in the coop today. Chickens need about 14 hours of light to continue to produce eggs. So, in an effort to have more eggs this winter than last, we put a light on a timer so they will have that 14 hours.

Chickens automatically go into their coop at dusk. They get themselves settled before dark. Once it is dark, they can't see. They are blind without light. So, they don't move all night. As the sun rises, they go outside for the day.

The girls are a bit confused with this light. They are used to sleeping once in the coop. Phyllis is the white one standing in there. She seems to be the bird that is the lookout for them all.

Cats at Computer 10-10-10

Working at the desk early one morning. Finn and Snickers are usually on the desk. I turned my chair around to see Doodah, Baby and Rocky looking at me. Zippy was around, wanting me to play with her.

We were eating on the patio. Had some watermelon ready to give the hens when we put them back in the pen. Lacey saw in on the table, jumped up, and started to eat.
